ATLAS, EDI conversion, communication and archiving from a single source

Highly automated and standardized electronic data interchange (EDI) is at the heart of the ATLAS process. These components are also certified. Here, AEB offers something distinct from other proprietary solutions, including in the crucial area of archiving.

EDI conversion: CUSDEC, CURREL and back

ATLAS offers full electronic communication with the German customs administration. Written customs declarations and administrative files, including assessments of import duties, are replaced by electronic data interchange. ATLAS is based on the UN/EDIFACT data interchange format using the remote data transfer protocol X.400 or FTAM. The AEB ATLAS solutions also use a proprietary conversion and communication system: the ASSIST4 Communication Management System, or ACMS. An ATLAS cockpit allows incoming and outgoing communication to be managed, ensuring transparency in the processes and transactions. This application has proven to be extremely helpful, as it maintains transparency in the communication with customs administration.

The importance of archiving

The tax code defines the obligations of economically involved parties to keep and share information. Such parties are obligated to maintain the original copies of messages exchanged with the customs administration for ten years. This is why an audit-proof archive must be an integral component of an ATLAS solution. How should electronic messages be archived? AEB solutions offer audit–proof archive functions that can be expanded to an enterprise-wide archive.

Secure “detour” via the AEB computer center

The extent to which services are assigned to external partners is often a strategic decision. AEB offers three different installation options, including options to wholly or partially outsource technical administration:

  • Complete installation of import software plus the necessary communications software in your own data processing environment (in-house solution).
  • You install the import software at your business and we provide the necessary communications software (EDI) through our computer center (clearing center solution).
  • Both import software and the communications software (EDI) are installed in the AEB computer center(ASP solution).

Companies who opt for the clearing center or ASP solution (ASP = Application Service Provider) do not need to worry about conversion of their customs data. The “detour” via the AEB computer center ensures secure data interchange.
